GENERAL MANAGER

 

Located in Gander, NL, this member owned co-operative has a proud history of providing goods and services to our community for over 75 years. Gander Co-op has 15000 members and provides employment for 50 staff members. It is a retail food co-operative with annual sales of more than $13 million and provides a full selection of grocery and additionally sourced products.

 

Reporting to the Board of Directors, this position is for a GENERAL MANAGER to oversee all operational aspects of the store. The successful candidate should have or should be willing to develop an understanding of how a co-operative is governed and the role it has within the community.

 

Job Details:

 

• Location: Gander, NL

• Salary Range: Commensurate upon experience

• Benefits: Health Plan (50/50 co-pay), and Pension Plan

• Terms of Employment: Permanent Full Time

• Hours: Minimum 40 hours per week

 

Job Requirements:

 

• Business diploma/degree or equivalent experience and training

• Minimum 3 years retail management (grocery experience would be an asset)

• Oversee all operational aspects and seek out new business opportunities

• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate daily operations including staffing requirements

• Supervise staff, committees, and contractors in various areas of responsibility

• Recruit, hire, facilitate training, and evaluate employee performance

• Responsible to plan budgets and monitor revenues and expenses

• Negotiate contracts and leases as required

• Become familiar with and respect the terms and conditions of wholesale supply agreements

• Study market research and trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales opportunities, and the effect of competition

• Must be bondable, hold a valid driver’s license, and agree to a criminal and credit check

• Work conditions include a fast-paced environment, tight deadlines, attention to detail and involve a combination of sitting, standing, walking, and lifting

 

Specific Skills:

 

• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

• Able to work collaboratively with a board of directors who provide direction and oversight on behalf of the members of the co-operative

• Strong leadership and motivational skills

• Good analytical ability

• Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

• Business Equipment & Computer Applications: word processing, electronic mail, spreadsheets plus capacity to learn industry specific computer software
